MON: Documentary Project Day 1: The Interview

  • I can reflect on the successes and challenges of the How-To project and use that knowledge to improve my Documentary and my Featurette
  • I can watch interview exemplars & utilize similar techniques in my own interview filming
The Week Ahead & Announcements

  • Office hours Tuesday as usual
HOMEWORK:
  • Watch the PBS and other documentary sources [search Documentary on Netflix, etc...]
    • Watch the interview sections and look for, among other things
      • Framing (rule of thirds?  what kind of background?)
      • Angle (straight on or artsy?)
      • Lighting (warm? dramatic?)
      • Sound quality (background noises? other distractions?)
    • Analyze how they show or represent data
      • are the simply talking about it?
      • do they use a chart or a graph? Is it animated?
      • does the action STOP or is the data WOVEN in to the story?
    • Other elements of the documentary
      • Vertical or Horizontal video?
        • If any vertical then why? [eye witnesses?]
      • Types of shots?
      • Other photographic rules and tricks?
