              TUE 9-27 GenYES 1.4

              And now...

              • Constructivist learning and the GenYES Student Technology Leader:
                • Using the Constructivist Learning Diagram as a guide, we will have a discussion about learning styles and strategies.
                • What are examples of ways to learn by hearing, watching, creating, doing, etc.?
                • Describe your best learning experience and talk as a group about what made it a success (examples do not have to be from school)
                • Discuss what makes an “application” of knowledge meaningful
                • What are some topics that are important at EA and ways that our "Learner" could investigate and apply them in a constructivist way?
                • What are some ways we can use technology to help teachers cover their topics in a constructivist way (by "doing")
              • TAP brainstorm:
                • Using the Sample TAP Requests list* below make a list of possible technology-infused lessons or projects for these TAPs, paying special attention to using technology to create an active (constructivist) learning experience for STLs AND for the Teacher. For example, which of these is the BEST option for the partner teacher in TAP #3?:
                  • Make a PowerPoint with pictures, maps, diagrams, or video clips instead of just text
                  • Have her STLs make their own PowerPoints about a topic the class is studying as a guide to help her continue with the project
                  • Make a PowerPoint Jeopardy game that STLs can play as a test review
                • Go through the other sample TAP requests below and propose ways they can be fulfilled that will be meaningful for the TAP's involved
              • *Sample TAP Requests LIST
                • These TAP requests show you some of the many possibilities for projects to work on in your school. Some teachers will have a clear idea about what they want, and others might be looking for your suggestions. You can even show this list to teachers in your school to help them get ideas for TAPs.
                • Every year my sixth grade social studies class makes travel brochures about a country we are studying. In the past they have cut pictures out of magazines, but this year I would like them to make the brochures on the computer. I would like a GenYES student to help me figure out how to do this.
                • My chemistry class is doing a research project and I would like to know where my students can find good chemistry resources on the Internet.
                • I’ve heard that PowerPoint is a good way to update all my old overhead lecture outlines. I would like to meet with a GenYES student to get started on this project, have them show me how to use the program, and talk about ways that PowerPoint can make my lessons more interesting and fun for my students.
                • My 4th grade students need to practice their math facts. Is there a way they could do this on the computer?
                • I'd like to put the photos of the class field trip on my computer- they're currently on my camera. After that, I need some help putting them on the class iPads.
                • Is there some way my language arts students could use technology to learn more about American literature?
                • I just heard from our librarian that we have a collection of CDs with famous speeches on them. I think it would be great if I could play some of them for my US History class. I would like a GenYES student to show me how to put the tracks on the server so I can take my class to the computer lab and have them access and listen to different speeches.
                • My email is broken and I need a GenYES student to come fix it as soon as possible, please!
                • I need pictures to display in my classroom for a unit about folk tales, but I don't have time to find them on the Internet and figure out if they are formatted correctly or under copyright. Please come meet with me so I can show you what kind of pictures I am looking for.
                • I am the school librarian, and would like a GenYES student to put together a tutorial on how to use our electronic catalog system. It needs to be simple enough that someone coming into our library could click on it and understand how to search our collection without having to ask for help.
                • My science class is going to grow beans in two weeks. Is there a tool online that students can add their data, record observations, and see their classmates' data with? I was thinking of using Google Docs, but I need some help setting it up.
                • Could I get some help creating a Google Earth tour of places in the ancient Roman Empire for my world history class?
              • Now look at the Teacher Assistance TAPs and IT Assistance TAPs HANDOUTS.
                • Look at the actual TAPs (along with accomplishments and completion time)
                  • Which TAPs might apply toEA?
                  • Do any of the TAPs deal with a technology unfamiliar to the us?
                  • Which ones could you see us doing
                    • right now
                    • this year
                    • future years
