Lesson:
- The How-To was to get us to understand the technical skill - all you needed was an idea, the content was something you already knew
- The documentary is where you take that basic skill and combine it with research and more advanced video skills, producing a technically better video on a more interesting topic.
- This movie must be better than the last, using more advanced skills
- The subject of this film must be researched and written in advance
- You do NOT need to have live narration or interviews
- The PSA/MINI-Documentary film is to explain something to us AND/OR convince us to do something.
- Explain something to us
- How something works
- Why something exists
- Tell us about your passion
- Convince us to do something good, or to stop doing something bad
- Introduce us to a place or a thing
- Tell us someone's story
- Let someone tell us their story
- Investigate something
- Illustrate a famous poem or speech
- Be a journalist
- The documentary must be researched in advance and include information from that research.
- Edit your video using the techniques we have already learned
- DO NOT use any extra features until you have finished the basic cut
- No transitions or music until the basic cut is finished
- IF YOU HAVE NO HOW-TO FOOTAGE
- REVIEW the requirements here
- PLAN how you are going to FILM TODAY AND UPLOAD the footage BEFORE tomorrow morning
- PRACTICE your editing skills using the practice footage
- DO QUIET HOMEWORK AND DO NOT BOTHER STUDENTS WHO ARE EDITING
- FINISHED? You may...
- Quietly work on the storyboard or other arrangements for your Documentary or Featurette
- Quietly work on other schoolwork
- Quietly use Reading+, a Kindle, or a book
