TUE: Blogger & New year, new grades, new opportunities to GROW.

"[Photography] is an immediate sketch, done with intuition,
and you can't [really] correct it..."
Henri Cartier-Bresson
Daily Learning Target(s):
  • I can make an intelligent choice about who I work with
  • I will learn to take better pictures - even with a crappy camera
    • [I can prepare my phone for the photo unit if for some reason I STILL have not done so]
Homework:
  • The Extra Credit Photo Challenges:  To be turned in via your PHOTO BLOG [more info on that soon]. Save them, and remember you will need to list the Challenge and how the photo fulfills it
    • 12 points are available for photos that meet challenge requirements and demonstrate visible technique
  • Take photos... If you LIKE the photos you take can you explain WHY you like them more than just talking about liking the subject of the photo?
Announcements:
  • We are going out this month to take nature pictures around the lake,  portraits and more!
    • You must be willing to actually walk outside in your shoes so if it is muddy out don't wear your Off-White's if you are trying to keep them pristine.
    • Bring a jacket if it is cold and make sure you can take off your hoodie if it is hot!
    • You MUST have or borrow a properly set-up phone
Photo Unit Reminders:
    • Bring Fully Charged Cell Phones and Cameras
    • John will mock your diagonal pictures unless you can tell him why you took it that way
    • All photos taken must be ONLINE before the next class - we do NOT upload our cell phone photos in class.
    Agenda: [60]
    • Warm-Up: Typing.com [10]
    • New Year! [05]
      • Consistent Actions = Results
        • What actions do YOU need to take this semester?
        • Did you get the grades you wanted?
        • Did you get the grades you a capable of?
    • Typing Grades [05]
      • Some of you really put in effort for the final marking period and your grades reflect that.
        • One student was able to turn an NC into a C- for their semester grade! (Typing saved their GPA and made it so they didn't have to repeat the credits! Congratulations)
        • Many of you with already high grades still put in the effort and you were rewarded with a bonus
        • Many of you who really needed to bump up your grade made little to no effort and your grades went down because of it.
        • Nobody got an NC due to the final typing grades. All semester NC's existed before the typing grade was entered.
      • If you have transitioned to the second typing login you should check your grade to make sure you got the proper credit. Check with John ASAP if you didn't.
    • Your Photo Portfolio BLOG! [25]
      • This is how you will submit your work
        • Each photo will be submitted with a written reflection of one or more paragraphs.
      • Your work will be public
      • ALL EA teachers will be invited to view your work
        • Your 10th-grade teachers are especially interested to see what you can do!

    • Auditioning your spring partnerships [15]
      • Productive Collaboration is more than just group work, it is supporting each other on individual work, providing feedback, honest critique, encouragement and accountability.
      • For the spring semester, the hope is that you can find one or more partners that you can work productively with.
        • Choose the right partner and the quality of your work and work habits will definitely be reflected in your grades.
        • Choose the wrong partner and the same thing will happen only is a real sad-face kinda way.
      • A great partner is:
        • Someone who will give you their opinion but will refuse to do your work for you
        • Someone who will encourage and motivate you to get your work in ON-TIME and to your best ability - staying with you when possible to help
        • Someone who will be honest with you when you are messing up and help you get back on track ASAP
        • Someone who you want to explore the technical and artistic side of Photography, Photoshop, and Moviemaking with.  If you are great at the technical skills, an awesome partner would have strong artistic skills.
      • You have THREE major projects coming up, each of which you can use a partner for.
      • NEXT CLASS you will propose the first of those partnerships and if John agrees you will be assigned seats together for the rest of January.
        • If that partnership is productive you may be allowed to keep that partner for other projects.
        • Students who choose NOT to have a partner will be assigned seats with each other for the feedback portion of the units.
        • Groups of FOUR (TWO partnerships) can propose adjacent seating
