TUE: Photowalk 1 - The rule of Thirds
NO Computers
"[Photography] is an immediate sketch, done with intuition,
and you can't [really] correct it..."
Henri Cartier-Bresson
YOU must take pictures today
and for each
you must be able to explain WHY you took it
Daily Learning Target(s):
- I can take multiple photos that demonstrate the RULE OF THIRDS
- I will learn to take better pictures - even with a crappy camera
Homework:
- Take photos... If you LIKE the photos you take can you explain WHY you like them more than just talking about liking the subject of the photo?
Announcements:
- We are going out EVERY WEEK DURING THIS UNIT to take pictures - you MUST have or borrow a properly set-up phone
- John will mock your angled pictures unless you can explain to him why you angled your phone
- All photos taken must be ONLINE @ PHOTOS.GOOGLE.COM before the next class - we do NOT upload our cell phone photos in class.
- Use a selfie to demarcate photographers when sharing a phone
Agenda:
- Photowalk [60]
- Your GOAL is to take multiple pictures that demonstrate the Rule of Thirds
- The Rule of Photo Walks [10]
- You MUST be able to see JOHN @ ALL TIMES
- You MAY NOT be more than 1/2 block away from John, who will try to walk in the middle of the pack
- You MUST NOT CROSS ON RED. I will give you an NC if you jaywalk. Just wait for the green. We will wait for you.
- YOU must take pictures today and YOU must be able to explain WHY you took it
- You MAY NOT go inside ANY business or building - even if they say you can [do NOT ask]
- You may not sit on any cars, climb on any walls, or otherwise do anything but walk on the sidewalk unless John specifically tells YOU that you can.
- You MAY take a picture of anyone or anything you can see from outside
- It is polite to ask permission if you want to take someone's picture. If they are the SUBJECT of the picture then ask.
- If they are just "in the picture" and it isn't "of them" then permission is not necessary and will slow you down.
- Walk [50]

FRI/MON: Hella hEAlthy #4 & #5 & #6 & #7@ The SPOT
The Spot is a collaborative youth center in Oakland Chinatown that supports comprehensive positive youth development to prevent violence and foster healthy transitions into adulthood.
The Spot offers programs and activities that build young people’s competence in multiple areas, as well as develop their confidence, connection to people and institutions, character, and compassion. The theme of the youth center is “Ready for the Future” and The Spot’s culturally attuned activities will include tiered mentorship, leadership roles, and internships for youth to gain knowledge and skills in health and wellness, history and culture, job training/college readiness, and leadership. Instead of merely being a space with co-located services, The Spot will be coordinated to provide a web of support and opportunities for youth and young adults. This web of support requires both a strong infrastructure for administrative as well as program coordination plus anchor partners with youth development expertise in program provision in the content areas.

THEN
CHOOSE ONE PROMPT within the TOPIC
FOR ALL ESSAYS include information from
BOTH SOURCES or as specifically directed otherwise
Follow the format in the Google Classroom Assignment exactly
Extra credit information is in the Google Classroom assignment description
Extra credit information is in the Google Classroom assignment description
TOPIC 1: Categories of Birth Control
Sources:
- Planned Parenthood
- [Typically considered LIBERAL, provides abortion services across the country)
- American Pregnancy Association
- [Typically considered CONSERVATIVE, while not stating it in an obvious way on their website this is an anti-abortion group]
[NOTE: If you choose an easier topic you are expected to answer the prompt completely and with expertise]
- What do you think is the BEST birth control for teenagers who decide to use it? Why?
- You may use either site primarily but note any discrepancies between the two.
- List the four major types of birth control; the options within each type; and a brief description of why one might choose to use each option.
- You may use either site primarily but note any discrepancies between the two.
[NOTE: Trying a harder topic and not finishing is often worth more credit than taking the easy way]
- What information is similar between the two sites and what is different? Why do you think this is so? Which site makes more sense to you and why?
- Does one site seem more biased than the other? Why would this be? How does this impact how TRUE you think their information is? What is the impact biased information might have on a teen trying to make an informed choice? Is it necessarily bad?
- What are the options if you have an unplanned pregnancy and decide you can't take care of a baby at this point in your life? Use information from BOTH websites or explain why you couldn't. What options do you find most reasonable and why?
TOPIC 2: Abortion Pro/Con
Source(s):
Source(s):
- Pro/Con.org Website [This non-partisan organization provides primary evidence and links from both sides of many issues]
- Use this site to get information from BOTH perspectives.
- If you believe a woman has a right to chose (PRO CHOICE) whether to have an abortion, what information on the CON side do find is most reasonable? Where do THEY have a valid point? What is some information from the PRO side that you can use as an answer to that point? Have you reconsidered your viewpoint at all after today?
- If you consider life to begin at conception and should always be preserved (PRO LIFE), what information on the PRO side do find is most reasonable? Where do they have a valid point? What is some information from the CON side that you can use as an answer to that point? Have you reconsidered your viewpoint at all after today?
- If you DO NOT KNOW how you feel about this debate choose the two "best" arguments from EACH side and compare and contrast them. Finish by telling me if you are any closer to taking a side and why or why not.
